Paroxet works by potentiating serotonergic activity in the central nervous system through the inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin (5-HT). It blocks the uptake of serotonin into human platelets, leading to increased serotonin levels in the brain. It has minimal effects on norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake.
